1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how HireAm (“HireAm”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal data when you use our website, mobile experience and skilled-services marketplace in Nigeria.
We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and other applicable Nigerian law. By using HireAm you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.
2. Who is responsible for your data
HireAm is the data controller for personal data processed through the platform. If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at info.hiream@gmail.com.
If a legal requirement obliges us to appoint a Data Protection Officer, we will publish those details on this page.
3. Information we collect
Account information: your full name, email address, phone number, password (stored only as a secure hash), state, city, area and optional street address.
Profile information: for professionals, your primary and additional skills, biography, years of experience, pricing, availability, service locations, portfolio photographs and profile photograph.
Verification documents: for professionals, a government-issued ID or trade certificate submitted for identity verification.
Transaction information: job details, budgets, invoices, receipts, payment method and reference, platform commission and payout amounts.
Communications: messages exchanged between customers and professionals on the platform, and any complaint or dispute you raise.
Usage data: device and browser type, IP address, pages visited and actions taken, used to operate and secure the platform.
4. Signing in with Google
You may register and sign in using Google. When you do, Google shares with us your name, email address, profile photograph and a unique Google account identifier. We use this only to create and secure your account.
We request only the “openid”, “email” and “profile” scopes. We do not access your Gmail, contacts, calendar, files or any other Google data.
You can revoke HireAm's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
5. How we use your information
To create and manage your account and authenticate you securely.
To operate the marketplace: publishing jobs and applications, matching customers with professionals, and enabling messaging.
To verify professional identities and award the ✓ Verified badge.
To generate invoices and receipts and record transactions.
To display reviews and ratings based only on jobs completed on the platform.
To send service notifications, security alerts and — where you have requested it — password reset links by email or SMS.
To investigate complaints, disputes and suspected fraud.
To improve, secure and analyse the platform, and to comply with legal obligations.
6. Legal basis for processing
Contract: processing necessary to provide the marketplace services you request.
Legitimate interests: securing the platform, preventing fraud, improving our services and enforcing our Terms — balanced against your rights.
Consent: optional processing such as marketing communications, which you may withdraw at any time.
Legal obligation: processing required by Nigerian law, including tax and anti-fraud requirements.
8. Identity documents
Professionals must submit a government-issued ID or trade certificate. These documents are stored securely, are accessible only to authorised administrators, and are used solely to verify identity.
They are never displayed publicly, never shared with customers, and are not used for marketing.
9. How long we keep your data
Account data: for as long as your account remains open, plus any period required by law.
Job, invoice and receipt records: retained for at least five years to meet Nigerian tax and accounting requirements.
Identity documents: retained while your verification is valid, and for a reasonable period after, to evidence that verification took place.
Messages and complaints: retained while needed to resolve the matter and for a reasonable period afterwards.
When data is no longer required, it is deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
10. Your rights
Under the NDPA you have the right to: request a copy of your personal data; correct inaccurate or incomplete data; request deletion of data we are not legally required to keep; object to or restrict certain processing; request transfer of your data; and withdraw consent at any time.
You can update most of your information directly from your Account page. For any other request, email info.hiream@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your request, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
11. How we protect your data
Passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes and are never readable by us or our staff.
All traffic is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and access to administrative functions is restricted and logged.
Role-based access control ensures users can only reach data they are authorised to see.
No system is completely secure. If a breach affecting your data occurs, we will notify you and the NDPC as required by law.
13. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we require appropriate safeguards and transfer only where Nigerian law permits.
14. Children
HireAm is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Payments
HireAm currently does not process payments. Payments for services are made directly between the customer and the professional.
When in-platform payments are introduced, we will update this policy to describe what payment data is processed, by which provider, and under what safeguards — before the feature goes live.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform grows. We will post the revised version on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and notify you where the change is significant.
17. Contact us
For any question about this policy or your personal data, email info.hiream@gmail.com.
You may also raise a data request through the Contact or Report options inside the platform.
